Freelance scholar and published poet Jennifer Kidney will teach a BEYOND GENEALOGY Workshop at the Depot on October 20, from 10:00 am to noon, focusing on “Putting the Background on the Family Tree: Writing Family Stories.” This two hour workshop will help participants identify and use resources, from family photographs to history books, to flesh out family stories. It will also recommend models and organizational strategies for compiling family stories, and it includes a writing exercise. Participants are asked to bring along an artifact, such as a letter, photograph, or recipe that represents a family story, to share with the group and to use as a starting point for writing their own family story. Poetry is Kidney’s personal preference for recording family stories. Cost of the workshop is $15. Call The Performing Arts Studio at 405-307-9320 to enroll.
