The Crane WivesThe Crane Wives, who describe themselves as a “home grown indie-folk outfit that defies musical stereotypes,” come to Summer Breeze on Sunday, July 9, 2017. Music begins at 7:30 pm. Bring lawn chairs or blankets, your favorite refreshments, and settle in to enjoy a free family friendly concert in Lions Park at Flood and Symmes.

A four-piece female fronted group, The Crane Wives feature three-part vocal harmonies, narrative lyricism, eclectic instrumentation, and a passion for songcraft that creates accessible and innovative organic music. The Grand Rapids, Michigan band, whose members are Emilee Petersmark (guitar/vocals), Kate Pillsbury (guitar/vocals), Dan Rickabus (drums/vocals) and Ben Zito (bass), claim a wide variety of influences, including folk, blues, ska, punk and even heavy metal. Formed in late August of 2010, the band’s moniker came in part from The Decemberists' 2006 album, The Crane Wife.

The Crane Wives have released four full-length albums: "Safe Ship, Harbored" (2011); "The Fool In Her Wedding Gown" (2012); "Coyote Stories" (2015); and "Foxlore" (2016). The band recorded two albums worth of material in March and April 2015. The second album, "Foxlore," released in 2016, features a progression from the previous two albums with the addition of electric guitar and other various instrumentation. The two albums also feature long-time collaborators in the Michigan music community, including: Seth Bernard, Steve Leaf (Steve Leaf and the Ex Pats, Public Access), Savanna Buist (The Accidentals), Katie Larson (The Accidentals), Justin Dore (Big Dudee Roo) and Rachel Gorman (The Red Sea Pedestrians.)

Each live show features contagious energy as well as original music that ranges from whisper quiet ballads to danceable grooves, keeping The Crane Wives on the road and winning awards.
