Summer Breeze Concerts, a series of 8 free Sunday evening outdoor concerts in Norman's Lions Park at Flood and Symmes, begins its 18th season on May 21, 2017 with a concert by Oklahoma City rapper Jabee. Music begins at 7:30. Bring lawn chairs or blankets and refreshments and settle in for the evening to enjoy the casual, easy breezy atmosphere of a family friendly concert in the park.
Jonathan Blake Williams Jr, better known by his stage name Jabee, is an Oklahoma City hip hop artist and actor who began to rap at age seven, was performing onstage by the age of ten and at age fifteen started recording his own music. Using his college laptop, Jabee created his first release, titled Ijuswannamakesomemusic. Several EPtapes and albums followed from 2008 forward. Jabee was headlining shows around the Midwest region. His track "Ghetto" was featured on Public Enemy Chuck D's Sirius station, where Chuck D was quoted saying "Jabee's music has the potential to change the world."
Jabee networked and performed at events such as South By Southwest, where he met Sway Calloway and was offered a spot on Sway In The Morning. Jabee earned a regional Emmy in 2014.
In 2016, Jabee began preparing for the August release of his debut Grand Union Media label album, "Black Future." The album features guest appearances from Killer Mike, Brother Ali, and Chuck D, as well as production from Statik Selektah, Hannabal King, and more. The album track 'Monument' features Public Enemy's Chuck D and premiered on Billboard. Since the release of “Black Future” Jabee has also released "Juneteenth" on iTunes.
In fall 2016 Jabee was featured as an honorary professor at the Academy of Contemporary Music at UCO, teaching a course on Hip Hop studies.
