The Summer Breeze Concert Series continues with The Steel Wheels on Sunday, May 31, 2015 at 7:30 pm in Norman’s Lions Park at the corner of Flood and Symmes. Summer Breeze is a free concert series presented by The Depot. Bring seating and your favorite refreshments, and enjoy a wonderful evening in the park filled with great music!
The Steel Wheels are Trent Wagler (vocals/guitar/banjo), Brian Dickel (bass), Eric Brubaker (fiddle) and Jay Lapp (mandolin). They have captured audiences across the country with their heady brew of original soulful mountain music and their deep commitment to roots and community. This dynamic four-piece string band marries old-time musical traditions with their own innovative sound and lifestyle, generating a truly magnetic revival. Martin Anderson of WNCW radio says, "There is purity and power in the sound of this band that few come close to tapping. Tight pickin', passionate energy, and Wagler's voice soars like an eagle.”
The band’s genesis dates back to 2004, when Wagler, Dickel and Brubaker were college students in Harrisonburg, Virginia. Trent and Brian first performed as a duo, then Eric joined them, and the addition of Jay Lapp completed the current lineup. The group’s first release as The Steel Wheels was 2010’s “Red Wing.” The track “Nothing You Can’t Lose” from that album was named Best Country Song at the Independent Music Awards. “Live at Goose Creek” was released in 2011, and that was followed in 2012 with “Lay Down, Lay Low”, which was named the IMA’s Album of the Year. “No More Rain” was released in 2013, and “Leave Some Things Behind” just came out in April.
