rangers8-kkerrThe Red Dirt Rangers will take the stage at Norman’s Lions Park at the corner of Flood and Symmes on Sunday, June 29, at 7:30 pm, in another Summer Breeze free concert presented by The Depot (formerly known as the Performing Arts Studio).

The Red Dirt Rangers Brad Piccolo (guitar, vocals), John Cooper (mandolin, percussion, vocals), and Ben Han (lead guitar, vocals) represent the hard-to-define blend known as Red Dirt music. Their country-rock-folk sound mixes with Woody Guthrie, Bob Wills, Merle Haggard, the Grateful Dead, all types of American music. All three are very talented songwriters, and their popular live shows are filled with memorable songs and outstanding musicianship. Brad Piccolo says, “I just want to make good music and send a good feeling out there to people.”

The Rangers released their latest album “Lone Chimney” in January 2013. Previous recordings include “Ranger Motel” (2007), “Starin’ Down the Sun” (2002), “Rangers’ Command” (1999), “Oklahoma Territory” (1996), and their music for kids of all ages album “Blue Shoe” (2004). Cooper and Piccolo also host the Red Dirt Radio Hour on KOSU Sundays at 9 pm, featuring a combination of all of the different musical styles and influences that have come through Oklahoma since statehood.

Last May the Rangers were honored for their contribution to the music of Oklahoma with an official proclamation at the Oklahoma State House of Representatives. The resolution recognized their musical accomplishments, their mentorship to emerging artists and their ongoing charitable work achieved through benefits, tributes and as organizers of the Red Dirt Relief Fund. The document credits the group for making a “significant contribution to the quality of life for the people of Oklahoma.”
