The Depot (formerly known as the Performing Arts Studio) presents honeyhoney on Sunday, June 15, at 7:30 pm in Norman’s Lions Park at the corner of Flood and Symmes, as part of the Summer Breeze free concert series.
honeyhoney is Suzanne Santo (vocals/banjo/violin), Ben Jaffe (vocals/guitar), and Conor Meehan (drums). Meandering through unique paths, then converging in Los Angeles and recognizing the chemistry they shared, honeyhoney released their first album, “First Rodeo”, in 2010, and followed that with “Billy Jack” in 2011.
Their music recalls Woody Guthrie, vintage Buffalo Springfield, glints of Gram Parsons, bits of Bonnie Raitt’s early blues, Rickie Lee Jones reality and Bakersfield Saturday nights. Not country, not folk, not rock, it is a hybrid that defies exact definition. With fiddles threading the melodies, big acoustic guitar sounds and banjos plinking as percussively as melodically, there is an old world feel to honeyhoney that is as fresh and right now as it is tube radios and old lace. Soft ballads about heartbreak and rockin' tunes about fast love, their style is unique, their sound is amazing, and their chemistry is unbelievable. They put their heart and soul into each song. "If we want anything from these songs," says Jaffe, "it’s to bring people into this music, to engage them.”
Bring seating and your favorite refreshments, and enjoy a wonderful evening in the park filled with great music!
