Second Sunday Readings at The Depot, 200 S. Jones, will feature Mary Leader on June 10, 2018. Leader, winner of the Iowa Poetry Prize and the National Poetry Series award, has just published her fourth book of poems, She Lives There Still (Shearsman Books, May 2018). The free reading will begin at 2:00 p.m.
Leader, presently Professor Emerita at Purdue University, will be giving a retrospective reading, including selections, not only from her new book, but also from her previous collections, as well as from her fifth book in progress. Her poetry has been featured on NPR, both on Weekend Edition and on Garrison Keillor's The Writer's Almanac. Keillor in addition included her work in his popular anthology, Good Poems. Leader's books have been favorably reviewed by the New York Times Book Review as well as by The New Yorker, which spoke of her "quite remarkable sensibility, which is one of the most self-possessed in contemporary poetry."
Second Sunday Readings, a long time program of The Depot, are hosted by former Oklahoma Poet Laureate and Oklahoma Book Award winner Carl Sennhenn. All programs at The Depot are made possible, in part, by grants from the Norman Arts Council and the Oklahoma Arts Council, and by generous individual donors.
