Dr. Larry D. Griffin, has been featured at numerous poetry readings around the world. He will read from his work on Sunday, August 14, at The Depot, 200 S. Jones, beginning at 2:00 pm. There is no admission charge. All are welcome.
Dr. Griffin has published more than one hundred nonfiction articles, more than three dozen short stories, and more than three hundred poems in regional, national, and international journals, ezines, and little magazines. His chapbooks of poetry include New Fires, The Blue Water Tower, Airspace, Greatest Hits, The Jane Poems, and More Jane Poems. Seventeen of his short stories appear in his collection A Gathering of Samphire and Other Stories.
Visiting Norman this summer from Saudi Arabia, where he is Professor of English in the School of Arts and Sciences at Salman bin Abdulaziz University in Al Kharj, Dr. Griffin was born, raised and educated in Oklahoma and received his Ph.D. and M.A. from the University of Oklahoma and his B.A. Ed., from Northeastern State University.
Dr. Griffin taught English at Midland College in Midland, Texas for ten years, and afterwards he was Dean of the Fine Arts and Communications Studies Division there for six years. He then served as Professor of English and Dean of Arts and Sciences at Dyersburg State College, Dyersburg, Tennessee, for seven years. He was Vice President for Academic Affairs at Three Rivers College in Poplar Bluff, Missouri, for two years. After that, he served Al Yamamah University, Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, as Provost. After one year in Shanghai, People’s Republic of China, as Academic Director of China for Raffles Institute of Design and Commerce, Dr. Griffin returned to Salman bin Abdulaziz University in Al Kharj.
Also a painter, photographer, and sculptor, Dr. Griffin says he discovers through his visual creative endeavors many useful strategies for creative problem solving in his teaching and research. He has exhibited his art works in numerous juried shows across the United States. His works may be found in private collections in Australia, China, Egypt, England, France, India, Ireland, Kazakhstan, Morocco, Nicaragua, New Zealand, Poland, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Thailand, the United Arab Emirates, and the United States of America.
