The May 15 Second Sunday Poetry will feature Larry Bierman reading from his just published collection titled Broken Rain. The free reading begins at 2:00 PM in The Depot, 200 South Jones Avenue, Norman. Light refreshments will be served.
Larry Bierman is a native of Oklahoma who began writing poetry in high school and published his first chapbook in 1971. Since then he has published five full-length collections of poetry and eight chapbooks. He is included in the 2014 anthology Oklahoma Poems and Their Poets, edited by former Oklahoma Poet Laureate Nathan Brown.
Bierman is a dynamic and engaging reader of his work. He writes imaginative lyric poetry, sometimes with a sarcastic edge.
A 1974 graduate of the University of Oklahoma and long-time resident of Norman, Larry completed requirements for a Secondary Teacher Certification and spent two years as Poet-in-the Schools for the Oklahoma Arts and Humanities Council. While there he edited four tabloid anthologies of student poetry.
Active in the Contemporary Arts Foundation both as a poet and performer, Larry is a founding member of IAO (Individual Artists of Oklahoma.) He has been a featured reader at the Full Circle Bookstore, The Everett Family Poetry series at the University of Oklahoma, and was twice honored to be the keynote reader for the Paseo Awards Banquet in Oklahoma City. He has participated in poetry readings in venues around Oklahoma and Texas.
