J.D. WhitneySecond Sunday Poetry is pleased to welcome J. D. Whitney to Norman by hosting a reading of his work on May 18 in the Norman Depot, 200 South Jones Ave.  There is no admission charge for the 2:00 pm reading.  The public is welcome.

J. D. Whitney was raised in California and Detroit.  After being partially educated at the University of Michigan, he taught literature and writing for many years at the University of Wisconsin Marathon County (Wausau WI) and College of Menominee Nation (Keshena WI).  He retired as Emeritus professor of English at the University of Wisconsin Colleges before moving to Oklahoma.

Whitney’s twenty published books/chapbooks of poetry include, most recently, ALL MY RELATIONS (Many Voices Press) and GRANDMOTHER SAYS (Arctos Press). His SWEEPING THE BROOM SHORTER (selected poems 1964-2014) is in the works for late 2014 or early 2015 release.  He has received writing fellowships from the Wisconsin Arts Board and the National Endowment for the Arts.  

J. D., his wife Lisa and their dog Sophie now call Norman home.
