Tim Kenney will demonstrate and discuss his work on Sunday, August 5, 2018, in The Depot Gallery, 200 S. Flood, beginning at 2:00 pm. “A Burst of Color,” an exhibit of Kenney's paintings, continues in the Depot Gallery through September 1.
Music for the August Art Walk reception will be provided by the popular jazz group Miss Brown to You, featuring Louise Goldberg and Mary Reynolds. The reception is from 6 to 9 pm, with music beginning at 7 pm.
Noted for his thick textured and colorful paintings, Kenney's inspiration comes from life -- the trees, flowers, skies, valleys, colors and, more important, the feeling he has when he views a scene that he is about to paint. Color is a word he hears quit often when others are talking about his paintings. Tim often says "I see colors where there are no colors."
His abstract impressionistic style lends itself to his subjects. “I use thick paints and palette knives to create heavy texture which helps bring out the depth of the scene.” he says. “Also the colors I use help convey the feeling I have when I am creating the painting and also the feelings that are transferred to the viewer and the collector.”
“I love to paint plein-air in Colorado, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Utah.” he says. “I love to capture the landscapes of the southwest while painting on site or using images from the areas we visit on our trips. Traveling, creating, demonstrating while painting is our life now and we look forward to it every day.”
New in Norman, a large Tim Kenney aspen mural has been painted on the east wall of 415 West Grey Street in the past few weeks. Drive by check it out!
