Artist Steve Hicks, surrounded by the exhibit of his paintings, will discuss his creative process in an “Art Chat” at The Depot Gallery, 200 S. Jones, beginning at 2:00 pm on Sunday, January 28, 2018. There is no admission charge. All are welcome.
Hicks recently retired from OBU, where he taught courses in basic drawing, painting, photography, calligraphy, and silk screen print making. The award-winning artist says “I think I enjoy painting and drawing more than anything else. I go back and forth from abstract to the very normal landscapes. Marks themselves can have their own beauty - one that slips from the literal into the abstract.”
Hicks received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Kentucky, a Master of Studio Arts from Murray State University in Kentucky and a Master of Fine Arts degree from the University of Arkansas. He has taught in universities in Arkansas, Louisiana and Oklahoma and has been listed in Outstanding Artists and Designers, Who’s Who in the South and Southwest and Who’s Who in America’s Teachers.
Exhibits in The Depot Gallery are made possible in part by grants from the Norman Arts Council and the Oklahoma Arts Council, and by generous individual donors.
