The Larry Pierce Combo features the best in eclectic standards and 'user friendly' jazz for everyone. The Combo will open the Performing Arts Studio Jazz Concert series at 7:30 on Sunday, October 27, in the Norman Depot, 200 S. Jones. Tickets are $10 ($7 for students) and are available at the Depot during office hours and at the door.
Whether tripping the light fantastic to the ballroom beat or kicking back and listening to the gorgeous saxophone and flute playing of Earl Hefley, audiences have delighted in the Oklahoma City based Larry Pierce Combo for over 20 years.
Larry's unique vocal stylings have been compared to Randy Newman and Doctor John, with Ray Charles a major early influence. Singer Susan Pierce, on the other hand, has a completely different, smoother, approach. Add the superb hand drum rhythms of Mark Giammario to the Combo, resulting in an acoustic experience not to be missed.
Larry Pierce has traversed a variety of musical genres in the successful quest to make his living as a full time self-employed musician, including a decade or so spent touring America with his band, The Nightbeats, which included Las Vegas, Tahoe, Dallas, and also taking some time to tour with his friends in Blood, Sweat & Tears as roadie/driver. The Combo is a member of the Oklahoma Arts Council Touring Roster.
